There are approximately 200 pairs of nesting ospreys in Scotland, taking up almost every available nest site.
This is an amazing sight, an osprey circling in the sky above the loch, calling, before suddenly dropping out of the sky and snatching a fish from just under the surface. Some birds, like this one, come in like a rocket, hitting the water at such speed that it becomes submerged, except for the head. It then takes a few beats of its large wings to become airborne, especially when carrying a large fish.
